The average Kibale chimpanzee trek takes 2 to 3 hours — significantly shorter than many Bwindi gorilla treks. Managed by the local community, the sanctuary covers a papyrus swamp and forest patch hosting 11 primate species — including red colobus, black and white colobus, and grey-cheeked mangabey — and over 200 bird species. The 2-hour guided walk costs approximately $10 USD and is an excellent complement to the morning chimpanzee trek.

Guided night walks in Kibale Forest depart from Kanyanchu at dusk and last approximately 2 hours. The forest at night reveals an entirely different cast of characters — bushbabies, pottos, tree hyrax, nocturnal birds, and a range of amphibians and insects.
